Following a decision made at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently, Clan Johnston/e in America (CJA) is beginning a new approach to the AGM by holding it in conjunction with other Scottish festivals around the country. This year for the first time the AGM will be held in conjunction with the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Highland Festival in Estes Park Colorado.
Estes Park is Situated in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado at the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, and for over 20 years has been home to the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Highland Festival, which hosts over 70,000 participants and visitors. The setting and the events planned for this year's festival offer an exciting opportunity for all CJA members.
In addition, the CJA AGM Committee has put together a program which will add to our members' appreciation and understanding of the history of Clan Johnston/e. These include a program on Lochwood Tower by Jeffrey M. Johnstone, FSA Scot, Chairman the CJA Lochwood Tower Restoration Committee and webmaster of The Clan Johnstone Heritage Page on the Internet, and Mr. Justice Russell C. Honey, Q.C., LL.B., author of the recently published book The "Gentle" Johnston/es. CJA President Arthur Johnston has a number of exciting programs planned for CJA in the coming year which will be presented at the AGM Business Meeting. Make your plans now and get your reservations in early to the AGM Commitee so the Committee can finalize details with the convention facilities.
The CJA AGM Committee has made special arrangements with The Inn at Estes for a block of rooms. CJA members must make reservations directly with the Inn by calling (800) 458-1182. Motels and other accommodations fill up early for the festival, so book early to insure space.
